Christmas Glamping

We think a Christmas getaway would be brilliant, but we love glamping (which is why we set up a glamp site!), so we're probably biased, but aren't a lot of people just a little bored with the usual Christmas?

I love Christmas, especially the build up to it but sometimes I find myself wanting a little more than the usual Christmas celebrations. I'm both adventurous and romantic so in my head I'm envisaging wide open beaches, with massive views and even bigger skies for after Christmas lunch walks, a local pub with a roaring fire to pop into for a Christmas drink after doing the Llangrannog beach Christmas day dip (which Tom has promised to do this year!) and new experiences such as exciting winter get togethers in cosy wood cabins, with real (locally grown) Christmas trees, fairy lights, wood burners, firepits and indoor barbecue huts. The good news is we get to do all that this year as we're spending Christmas on our glamping site in West Wales.

Picture this; wake up in one of our quirky geo-domes or our shepherd's hut, Cwt ar y Bryn that's been decorated for Christmas, get the wood burners fired up (great that Father Christmas has a chimney to come down) and have your first coffee or bucks fizz of the day looking out over the hills, meadows and mountains beyond. Open presents around the Christmas tree in your dome or hut, followed by cooking one of our breakfast hampers in our hand built, roundwood framed camp kitchen. If all the excitement gets too much for the kids and they're about to explode - wrap them up and send them out to play, where they have acres of space to go wild without anyone being bothered, but are close enough to keep an eye on.

After breakfast pop to Llangrannog, brave a quick, Christmas dip in the sea, then run into The Pentre Arms, which is right on the beach, for a hot toddy or hot chocolate. For lunch you can go to a local restaurant and have lunch cooked for you with none of the bother of having to clean up afterwards (which is always the worst part of the day). If you do want to make your own Christmas dinner, our camp kitchen is well equipped and though we don't have an oven, we do have our barbecue cabin, firepits, 2 hobs and some cunning ideas for spatchcock turkey and roast potatoes. We also have 2 fridges. Importantly Tesco and Asda deliver to us.

After lunch, take advantage of being on the beautiful, unspoilt Ceredigion coast and go for a bracing walk on one of the dozen beaches we have nearby. We also have 60 miles of coastal path to explore and burn off desserts and cheese boards! Come back to Wild Wellingtons and get the kids to chill and delve into our activities' box to do a spot of colouring, crafting, play games or just hole up in our cosy reading tent. You can light the kitchen wood burner and all the candles and relax on the sofa and enjoy the views.

Get together again in the evening and have a Christmas style barbie, with one of our local barbecue packs, in our Hansel and Gretel style indoor barbecue hut. But this is Christmas

glamping so get the kids to toast marshmallows and make s'mores and banana surprises wrapped in foil (the surprise being you can add anything and everything and have a banana bake off with a prize for the winner - ours have been great fun but get pretty competitive!). Our toasty barbecue hut can fit around 14 people, so large families aren't a problem. Or, snuggle around the firepits in the meadow, bring any instruments you play and have a Christmas jamming session - on a clear night, you may just want to chill and look up at our huge, dark Welsh skies and watch for shooting stars!

Christmas and New Year breaks are 4 nights long, though there is a chance to add on extra nights, so there is lots of time for exploring the area. There are lovely little towns such as Aberaeron and Narberth for great local shopping and eating, The Blue Lagoon (with slides, waves and hot tubs) for indoor fun, castles to explore, nature reserves to run-around and so many other places to see and things to do, though we have found many of our past guests have loved being on site so much, they've just chilled and stayed "home".

Our domes and Cwt ar y Bryn really are a unique and special place to celebrate Christmas and New Year with a twist. There are loads of ways to make a glamping getaway fun, such as a Christmas/New Year's Eve present hunt in the meadow, making decorations Christmas Eve morning in the camp kitchen, a magical Christmas/New Year's Eve story in the willow dome which is covered in fairy lights, sparklers in the meadow in the evenings......the ideas are endless. Groups will love the chance to get together and kids and adults will make such amazing memories, they'll be talking about such a holiday for years to come.

Christmas and New Year breaks start from £440 for 4 people. Travel cots are free, but extra fold up beds, if required, entail a surcharge.
